Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement

The Governments of Indonesia and Australia began negotiations for a free-trade agreement in November 2010. They decided that the agreement, known as the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA), would cover economic cooperation, trade and investment issues, with the objective of building a higher-level and mutually beneficial partnership between the two countries.

IA-CEPA was signed on 4 March 2019 after 12 rounds of negotiations. The agreement creates a framework for Australia and Indonesia to unlock the potential of the bilateral economic partnership, laying the groundwork for economic cooperation between businesses, communities and individuals.

IA-CEPA will provide Australian and Indonesian businesses with the opportunity to expand and diversify the economic partnership by reducing non-tariff barriers to trade and simplifying required paperwork. This economic partnership will strengthen the bilateral relationship between our two countries.
